Support and Development of Empathic Abilities

Everyone has empathic abilities, but some people feel things more deeply and sense subtler details than others. You probably already know who you are, although it may have taken some time to realize that not everyone perceives the world in the same way you do.

Perhaps you tend to know when someone's words don't match their thoughts. Perhaps you have picked up someone else's feelings for your own resulting in unexplained emotional highs or lows, such as depression. You may feel easily overwhelmed. People may have told you that you're overly sensitive.

You may have wondered if you had a disorder such as ADHD, ADD, or a mild autism. Maybe you identify as Indigo or as having a Highly Sensitive Temperament. You're not alone. The following resources can help you develop your abilities, increase your self-awareness, and connect with other empaths, as well as protect yourself in a world that feels callous at times.

My Story: On Being A Conscious Empath

I could always tell when someone's words didn't match their thoughts. I got a lot of practice as a child noticing this type of conflicting information. I felt confused, because I didn't for many years understand that these incongruencies weren't as obvious to everyone else as they were to me.

I had trouble making friends, because while I yearned to connect deeply with other people, typical interactions felt harsh and overwhelming. I protected myself from the intensity of relationships by remaining silent and as invisible as possible. I didn't want to draw any more attention to myself than necessary, so I hid and watched. I realize this is just an article of resources for Empaths but I need help. I need someone to talk to about my paranormal experiences. I need someone that I can go to and talk about these things. My mother feels the same things i do but i still dont know if we can be called "empaths".

I was often told that I was too sensitive as a child. I didn't even know what an empath was until I started reading about Intuition and Psychic abilities. I would often need quiet time after school to re balance my energy.

Many people will feel the way that was described above, however, I also believe that everyone should look for other explanations that are not paranormal. Some may simply be emotionally distressed, using the wrong attributions. Before seeking psychic remedies and meditations, seek other options. Coming from a long line of "psychic" women (I see no other way to explain it), it is MUCH less common then what is being claimed. With the requirements above anyone including myself could fall into that category and I know for a fact that I am not an empath. My aunt however, is, and it is much more complicated then people may realize. She isn't someone who will allow others emotions to jar her but she can sense them. Myself, I am jarred much easier however what I am able to do would be considered an intuitive. I use my aunt's ability to mediate others energies when reading, and she teaches me in return to be more confidant in myself. I can assure you, that raising your self-esteem and changing the way you believe others look at you (attributions) will lift these so called "empathic" feelings.
